Denise Turner

About me and my therapy practice

I am a psychodynamically trained therapist which means I help to think about links between the present and the past - particularly childhood experiences. However, in practice I am most interested in working with you as an individual, or as a couple, listening to your experiences and helping you to find  positive ways forward. I draw from a wealth of life experiences both personal and professional , as well as my therapy training and other qualifications. I have decades of  experience in the 'helping professions' working in the NHS, in a hospice and in the statutory and voluntary sector with people in different situations including homelessness, addiction, domestic abuse and mental health issues. I am a expert in bereavement and loss particularly in child death and sudden and unexpected loss  on which I am widely published. I am also a specialist in employment related issues, as well as working with relationship difficulties. I work with individuals, couples and more widely with organisations.

Practice description

I work both face to face in a therapy room in central Lewes and flexibly online. I work with individuals and couples.

There is lots I can say about me and my practice, for example I have worked for decades in different roles within the 'helping professions' and also currently work in an academic setting where I am a  Professor.  I specialise in loss and bereavement with particular expertise in child death and also in working with aspects of trauma. However, perhaps the best way to help you decide if I am the right therapist for you is through the voices of people I have worked with:

'Denise was brilliant and helped me immensely through a very challenging time. I am so very grateful to her.'

'Denise focussed on what was important to me and always understood things from my point of view without judgement.'

I feel so happy to have found you. I feel like you really understand me.'

Our first session

Our first session will be a time for us to get to know each other initially and to talk through what has brought you to therapy and what you are hoping to get from the process. It will provide you with an opportunity to ask questions, alleviate any anxieties  and to feel that I am the right person to start working with.

Contact me.

If you would like to contact me to find out any more about my work or how we might work together, please do email me and I promise I will get right back to you. You can also ask for me to call you so that we can have a chat before our first session
